All About Motor Mounts for BMW Motorcycles

The motor mounts on your BMW bike are responsible for two things: keeping the bike's engine securely in place, and absorbing any vibrations that result from riding over uneven pavement. Typically, they consist of two metal plates, connected by a rubber insulator that absorbs said shock, plus that of the engine's many moving parts.

When your motor mounts start to fail, you'll know it from a few key signs:

  • The vibrations becoming excessive
  • The engine moving around and contacting other parts
  • A ride that's bumpier than usual
  • Visible wear
  • Damage to the mounts, such as cracks or warps

Notice any, and you'll have to replace the mounts. It'll run you a couple hundred dollars usually, but sometimes more, especially if you have the job done at a BMW service center. Be sure to use OEM parts for the repairs. They'll be genuine BMW -- top-quality, with the right fit and finish from the get-go, and they'll carry warranty support. Aftermarket motor mounts may not promise the same.
